Surrender Certificate Application Process
A) Procedure for Persons of Indian Origin who have acquired Canadian/ Foreign Citizenship on or before 31st May 2010
Under Indian law, Persons of Indian Origin, who have acquired Canadian/foreign citizenship on or before 31st May, 2010 and are still holding valid Indian passport are required to have their passport cancelled from High Commission of India, Ottawa or Consulate General of India, Vancouver or Consulate General of India, Toronto and obtain a Cancellation stamp on their passports prior to application of Visa/OCI/PIO. If you have already obtained an Indian VISA/ PIO/ OCI, you still need to obtain a Cancellation Stamp.
Fee (Applicable only for Persons of Indian Origin who have acquired Canadian Citizenship prior to 31st May 2010):
A miscellaneous fee of C$ 20 is to be enclosed in the form of bank draft/Postal Order favoring High Commission of India, Ottawa or Consulate General of India, Toronto or Consulate General of India, Vancouver as per their jurisdiction.

IMPORTANT: Any services related to VISA/OCI/PIO will be rendered only after cancellation of valid Indian passports. Once you have obtained the Cancellation Stamp endorsement, it is essential for you to keep the Cancellation Stamp endorsements very carefully as that will be required while approaching the Indian High Commission/ Consulates for any services.
B) Procedure for Persons of Indian Origin who have acquired Canadian/ Foreign Citizenship on or after 1st June 2010
Persons of Indian origin, who have acquired Canadian/foreign citizenship on or after 1st June, 2010 are required to renounce their Indian citizenship and surrender their Indian passport for cancellation. The passport will be returned after cancellation and a Surrender Certificate will be issued to the applicants.
Fee:
A fee of C$ 168 to be enclosed in the form of bank draft/ Postal Order favoring High Commission of India, Ottawa or Consulate General of India, Vancouver or Consulate General of India, Toronto

C) Procedure for BC Region

However in case you are applying for any services related to VISA/ OCI/ PIO, CONSULAR SERVICES you may apply at the India Visa & Consular Services Centre at Vancouver, Surrey, Edmonton and Calgary along with your application for services related to VISA/ OCI/ PIO |

In case you apply at the India Visa & Consular Services Centers you have to pay a single service charge of CAD 19.25 plus applicable taxes per application |

Indian Passport expired on or prior to the 31st December 2004 will be cancelled at the Consulate General of India, Vancouver on a gratis basis. No application form or documents in support of the cancellation are required. Only the original Indian passport is required for cancellation. Citizenship Certificate attached to prove that person acquired citizenship before June 1st, 2010. |
